The following day, I kept thinking of the aftermath and the horrible tasks at hand that the NYC rescue crews were facing. In this assemblage I wanted to deal directly with the mangled chaos the twin towers had left behind. There had been reports of body parts found throughout the site so I chose to confront these images of death. My approach here was to treat this small piece as a model for an idea of a stage set. Of course, not even a full size stage set can convey the magnitude and scope of Ground Zero, but perhaps through symbolism we can approach and began to grasp the tragedy. Just as children are encouraged to draw out their fears and anxieties, we as a people have to do the same thing.
