During this past summer, while going back over my work to consider pieces as springboards for a solo exhibition titled "Recapitulations", I came across a small drawing I had done in the Sixties using my mother as a model, but changing her face in the process. It was unique within my body of work. Something about it caught my eye and I chose it to recapitulate its image into the present. I thought it was finished before September 11, but then this tragic date came along and this painting acquired a new meaning when I added the note behind the cross. Now it made perfect visual sense as to why I had picked it.
